DILI, 26 december 2022 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Tourism, Trade, and Industry (MTCI) inaugurated a tourist spot for the people of Rabilau, at the Maubisse Command Post, Ainaro Municipality.
The Minister of Development, José do Carmo da Silva, assessed that the community tourism sector drives the national economy.

Minister also emphasized that the Government is committed to developing all tourist sites, to ensure effective, efficient, and sustainable economic growth, and contribute to the diversification of the country’s economy.
“MTCI is developing Rabilau as a community tourism destination to empower and train local people to become owners of tourism resources, protect the culture, and preserve the environment,” said José do Carmo da Silva, in a statement seen by Tatoli today.
“The main purpose of this tourist spot is to provide employment and motivate residents to have an entrepreneurial spirit in the field of hospitality and services for local, regional and international tourists,” he said.
The official added that the concept of community tourism defines the community as the owner and needs to have a sense of ownership for the development of the tourism sector because sustainability and responsibility lay with them.
Community Tourism Group Coordinator (WARDA), Adelino Mendonça, on behalf of the Maubisse community, praised the Government’s support for the development of Rabilau as a tourist attraction.
“This project will benefit young people and society in general. This program aims to prepare them to have a sense of belonging to the preservation and development of the site,” he said.
The development of Rabilau as a tourist spot began in 2011, through a collaboration between the Maubisse people and the MTCI National Directorate of Tourism and Community Culture, with a value of 41 thousand US dollars.
