DILI, 17 January 2023 ( TATOLI – The General Secretary of g7+ Helder da Costa, said the purpose of establishing g7 + was to unite the fragile countries including Timor – Leste.
“g7+ was formed in 2010 which was initiated by Xanana Gusmao to unite the fragile countries from post-conflict in prioritizing the peace and stability to share the ideas in developing each country,” said the General Secretary of g7+ Helder da Costa told TATOLI in his office, Government Palace, Dili
The General Secretary of g7+ Helder da Costa added that currently, g7+ has 20 members of fragile countries and this organization has affiliated with the United Nations (UN) to conduct peace missions in conflict country to prioritize the peace and stability of each country.
“The success which had achieved by the g7+ in Timor – Leste has brought Timor – Leste in the international community, such as the country of Somalia, Sudan, and other fragile countries in promoting the peace and stability in ending the war,” he said.
The formation of the G7+ has brought a significant change, where fragile nations shared their ideas and experience from post-conflicts to support each other in constructing each country.
The g7+ mission in Timor – Leste plays an active role in promoting peace and stability between fragile nations because of the support from the Government of Timor – Leste during this time.
“So far g7+ in Timor – Leste receives funds of $ 1 million from the Government every year to support operational activities in promoting peace missions in Timor – Leste and internationally,” he said.
Hoping that with the support of the Government of Timor – Leste g7 + will continue to partner with other state members to promote peace missions in Timor – Leste and internationally.
Meanwhile, the members of fragile countries are; Afghanistan, Burundi, Central Africa Chad, Comoros, Congo, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Papua New Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Timor-Leste, Togo, and Yemen.
