DILI, 18 january 2023 (TATOLI) – The Government of Japan through the Ambassador of Japan to Timor – Leste, Kimura Tetsuya, today held a meeting with the Secretary of State of Youth and Sports (SSYS) Abrao Saldanha, to discuss the development of the new game, Taiso Gymnastics in Timor – Leste.
Speaking to reporters, Ambassador of Japan Tetsuya, said this meeting is held to introduce Taiso Gymnastics and the others sports together with SSYS to develop Taiso Gymnastics in Timor – Leste.
“Japan experienced Taiso Gymnastic and this gymnastics has already become the culture of Japanese, therefore we wish to introduce to Timorese people to exercise Taiso Gymnastics in their daily life to ensure the physical health in Timor – Leste,” said the Ambassador of Japan Tetsuya at the office of SSYS Lecidere, Dili on Tuesday.
Ambassador Tetsuya added to develop the various sport in Timor Leste, the Government of Japan through the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers ( JOCV) will send seven sports teachers to Timor-Leste in March.
” The seven sports teachers will support the Sports Faculty in the National University of Timor Loro Sa’e ( UNTL) also introduce the TAISO Gymnasitics and also work together to support the Associations of Judo, Aekedo, Kareta, and Kempo to develop the sports activities in Timor – Leste and also can compete for the international games in the world,”
At the same place, the Secretary of State of Youth and Sport, Abrao Saldanha welcomed and appreciates the support and initiative from Japan, saying Timor-Leste is committed to working together with Japan to develop sports in Timor – Leste.
“Ambassador of Japan Tetsuya is an experienced person in the area of sports because previously he had assumed the General Director of the Agency of Sports in Japan, with this experience he wishes to explore the sport as a form of diplomacy to be implemented in Timor – Leste,” said Saldanha.
He also hopes that the sending of the Japanese teachers will help Timor-Leste develop sports in Timor-Leste.
“Hope that the sending of seven persons of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and by working together with UNTL will promote and explore different kinds of sports in Timor-Leste,” he said.
