DILI, 18 january 2023 ( TATOLI) – Timor – Leste, Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery (MoAF) has installed tilapia food production machines in the Municipality of Liquiça.
The General Director of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoAF) Acacio Guterres, explained the tilapia food production machine was purchased by the Directorate of Fisheries with a total of $85,000 from the 2022 state budget.
“At the moment Timor – Leste already has its food production machine has been installed in Likasa Maubara, which aims to produce tilapia food to be distributed to tilapia farming farmers in Timor – Leste,” said Director General of Fisheries, Acacio Guterres told TATOLI in his office Comoro on wednesday.
Guterres explained that, with the existence of the tilapia food production machine, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries through the Directorate of Fisheries will cooperate with Kupang Agricultural Polytechnic (POLITAN) to discuss types of foods to be produced for tilapia fish.
“With the existence of this machine, MoAF will follow up, and work together with the Agricultural Polytechnic of Kupang (POLITAN) to produce types of food for tilapia, following the agreement signed previously between MoAF and POLITAN, to save the cost of buying food for tilapia fish” He explained.
According to Guterres, every year the Directorate of Fisheries spends over $8000 for the procurement of tilapia food, to distribute to the tilapia ponds center in Maliana – Leo hitu and Vikeke – Loihunu.
So far, MoAF registered over 700 groups of tilapia farming with members of over 3,000 people in Timor-Leste.
