UNFPA and WHO handover 35 tablets and PrEP to CPA to support HIV/AIDS prevention project

DILI, 24 january 2023 (TATOLI)- United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and World Health Organization (WHO) handed over 35 tablets and prophylaxis medicine (PrEP) to the Community Progress Association (CPA) to contribute to the prevention and elimination of HIV.

The country representative of UNFPA, Persia Arifin Cabo said Tablets and prophylaxis medicine (PrEP) are the most important for the Community Progress Association (CPA), aiming to support the service of the prevention and elimination of HIV disease.

“UNFPA is continued to work with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Minister of Health (MoH), and civil society focused on supporting Community Progress Association (CPA), on scaling up on HIV prevention through testing activity,’’ Country representative of UNFPA, Pressia Arifin Cabo told journalists, at Farol, this tuesday.

The tablet and prophylaxis medicine (PrEP) are offered to help the CPA’s peers to focus working on testing activity. It helps with data collection.

“We provide tablets to help “Community Progress Association” to collect data on the process of resting of HIV disease and provide services closely with the community risk for HIV’’ Explained Pressia.

Meanwhile, WHO country representative, Arvind Mathur said today in addition to handing over the equipment also launching the HIV self-test project.

“WHO and UNFPA is working closely with MoH and other civil society organization for HIV prevention and elimination by providing technical assistance and also materials for HIV tests and prevention. I am pleased to announce that in addition to the ongoing efforts and based on the WHO recommendations, the innovative HIV self-testing is being introduced in Timor-Leste,’’ He said

The Vice Minister of Health, Bonifacio Maucoli Dos Reis said this HIVTS project is important to detect more people who suffered from HIV disease.

 MoH 2020 to 2022 data record showed that over 50.023 to 50.992 persons have been visiting health facilities across the country for the check.

“MoH acknowledged that the rate of treatment has achieved 64%, but still face challenges in the treatment of affected people, as mostly they disappear without any reason,”

So far, Authority registered over 1.776 people suffering from HIV/AIDS since 2003.
