DILI, january 25, 2023 (TATOLI) – The Chairman of Parliamentary Committee G, which deals with Education, Youth, Culture, and Citizenship affairs, Antonio Verdial de Sousa said that the Committee will begin the inspection of the implementation of the merit-based scholarships.
The inspection will involve checking and verifying the list of students who have been selected for the Merit Aid Scholarship.
Verdial said that Committee G was suspicious of the selection process of the students with high grades for the scholarship.
“Therefore, Committee G will on thursday begin inspecting the implementation of the merit-based scholarship in Ermera municipality. The same inspection will be extended to other municipalities following the conclusion of the inspection in Ermera,” he said.
He revealed that there are indications of the manipulation of merit-based scholarship data, such as some students with high grades were not selected for the scholarship, while others with low grades received the scholarship.
The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Media, Francisco Jeronimo, said that the merit-based scholarship should really be for outstanding students, adding that the Government needs an investigation into the verification of the merit-based scholarship data.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) last week said it will announce the list of students for the merit-based scholarship in the near future.
