DILI 27 january 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Indonesian Ambassador to Timor – Leste, Octo Dorinus Manik, met the President of Republic ( PR) Jose Ramos Horta and discussed the accession of Timor – Leste to the membership of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) in 2023.
“We both discussed the accession to ASEAN, at the meeting I also informed that in February Indonesia would invite several Ministers to discuss Timor-Leste’s road mapping at the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta aiming to update Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN in 2023,” Ambassador Okto Dorinus Manik told TATOLI in the Presidential Palace, Aitarak- Laran, Dili.
Ambassador Manik added that Indonesia has been the Presidency of ASEAN since January 2023, therefore Indonesia will strive to support Timor – Leste’s to be a full member of ASEAN in 2023.
Previously Timor – Leste had evaluated by the ASEAN Fact-Finding Mission ( FFM) about the preparation of road mapping of the ASEAN Community consists of three pillars, namely the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
All requirements had fulfilled by Timor – Leste in 2022 to become the 11 State member of ASEAN in the Presidency of Indonesia in 2023.
