DILI, 09 february 2023 (TATOLI) – Jorge Camões, Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to the European Union based in Belgium, has now taken up a new assignment as ambassador to several other European countries, including Luxembourg, France, Poland, Czech Republic, and Germany.
Camões officially became Timor-Leste’s ambassador to these European countries after receiving credentials from the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
Camões explains that Timor-Leste’s embassy will continue to be based in Belgium, but will also cover its diplomatic mission in the five European countries to strengthen diplomatic ties as well as explore investment opportunities.
“Although it is not an easy task, I am committed to promoting our country to attract foreign investors and explore scholarship and training programs for young Timorese,” Camões said at the Presidential Palace, Dili.
The President of the Republic asked the new ambassador to promote peace by representing Timor-Leste abroad.
“President Horta asked me to coordinate with the government in order to identify priority areas to strengthen cooperation with these countries,” Camões added.
Camões will meet with government representatives to discuss priority programs in order to collaborate and strengthen bilateral ties with these European countries.
