DILI, 09 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Public Works (MoP) will collaborate with Timor-Leste’s Institute of Equipment Management (IGE) to improve the condition of rural roads across the national territory to facilitate the distribution of election materials.
“We will provide the list of roads to the IGE. If the IGE cannot do the work, then we can contact the national construction companies to carry out the rehabilitation and maintenance of the roads,”Minister of Public Work, Abel Pires da Silva told reporters, in Dili.
He said that six IGE branches have been established across the national territory, which will help fix the road conditions for the elections.
Silva recalled that the MoP has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Secretariat of Electoral Administration (STAE) regarding preparations for the upcoming elections.
“Last year, we signed an MoU with STAE to identify roads that needed to be improved in preparation for the elections,” he said.
Last month, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak met with Minister of Public Works (MOP) Abel Pires da Silva and IGE President Hermenegilda Laurentina to discuss the rehabilitation and maintenance of rural roads in preparation for the general elections.
