DILI, 14 february 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) has concluded the process of the recruitment of 1,715 volunteer teachers.
Education Minister Armindo Maia recalled that more than 2,900 volunteer teachers have been registered from 13 municipalities, except Oé-Cusse Ambeno.
The recruitment is intended to fill the 2,111 vacancies, of which, according to the MoEYS, only 1,539 have met the requirements to be hired.
It should be noted that while the recruitment is ongoing, the MoEYS recently advised schools not to employ volunteer teachers on their own initiative.
“According to the data, 1,715 have passed the document selection process,” said Armindo Maia, Dili.
The 1,715 volunteers were made up of 121 preschool teachers, 894 primary school teachers, 398 high school teachers, 126 professional technical teachers, and 176 home-school teachers.
The lists of selected teachers have been published in the President’s Official Gazette.
The monthly salary for primary school is US$204, and US$272 for secondary and technical-vocational teachers.
It is said that the ministry gave priority to volunteer teachers who worked in public schools between 2003 and 2013. As for teachers who worked in public schools, the ministry gave priority to those who worked between 2007 and 2017.
