CITL organizes 23 groups to conserve marine biodiversity in four municipalities

DILI, 15 february 2022 (TATOLI)- Conservation International Timor Leste (CITL) worked closely with 23 rural community groups to protect and preserve biodiversity in ocean-based in four municipalities.

Country Director of CITL, Manuel Mendes said CITL is working closely with 23 rural community groups to conserve biodiversity in the marine zone to protect biodiversity in marine and land zone.

“We are working closely with 23 community ocean protective groups for the conservation of biodiversity in the marine and land-based. We help them protect the fishes, coral, and other sea species,’’ Country Director CITL, Manuel Mendes told TATOLI Agency, in his office, Bebora, this Wednesday.

He added that CITL focused on the conservation of biodiversity due to the human behavior demanded by ocean species.

“Mostly people used booms and dynamic to destroy marine pieces in the sea level and habitat in ocean zone, for the commercial, therefore CITL will help the group to protect the marine biodiversity’’ He said

CITL has registered over 23 rural community groups composed of Lutem, Atauru, Bobonaro, and Liquica.

These groups will help protect and preserve marine biodiversity and also promote and become travel guides.

“During this time, Atauru rural group collected over 30.000 USD from tourism activities including diving, dolphin watching travel guides, whale watching, and others,”

According to Mendes every year CITL provided around 1.5 million USD to support the activities.

So far, CITL was established in last 2009 in Timor-Leste and has been assisted for 14 years in Timor-Leste.
