EU Election Observation Missions confirmed to observe parliamentary elections

DILI, 23 february 2023 (TATOLI) – European Union Election Observation Missions – (EU-EOM) is confirmed to observe Timor-Leste’s parliamentary elections to be held on may 21, 2023. 

Director-General of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), Acilino Manuel Branco, revealed that STAE has received an official letter from the EU-EOMs confirming that they will observe the Timor-Leste’s upcoming general elections. 

“The official letter confirmed to us that the EU-EOMs will observe our parliamentary elections. However, so far, we have not received any letter from other international election observers coming to monitor the elections,” Branco told Tatoli in his office, in Dili.

So far, STAE hasn’t received the exact number of observers regarding how many EU-EOM observers will be deployed to monitor the elections.

He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) is still contacting other international observers who will come to observe the parliamentary elections. 

“STAE will also invite ambassadors and foreign electoral bodies to observe the elections,” Branco concluded.
