DILI, 28 february 2023 (TATOLI) – Melwire Rolling (Pvt) Ltd, the Sri Lankan-owned facility, met today with the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, to convey their interest in the manufacture of cement and steel, in Timor-Leste.
The company plans to have a US$50 million investment in the country.
“We invite investors to invest in the manufacture of cement and steel, as Timor-Leste needs these construction materials to support the development of the country’s infrastructure,” Melwire Rolling’s Spokesperson, Vicenti Maubosi told journalists after a meeting with the Head of State, in Dili.
Maubosi explained that the cement and steel production would be sold in the country as well as exported to other countries such as Indonesia and Australia.
According to the company’s survey results, Baucau and Lospalos are the preferred locations for investment.
“We guarantee that Melwire Rolling will produce high-quality cement and steel, as it does in Sri Lanka,” Maubosi said.
President Horta was pleased with the company’s investment initiative and hoped that the investment could be realized in the near future.
