Ramos-Horta, Gusmão praise youth for peaceful All Souls’ Day celebrations

DILI, 05 November 2026 (TATOLI) – President José Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão have praised Timor-Leste’s youth for their responsible conduct during this year’s All Souls’ Day observances, saying their contribution helped maintain peace and public order.
The two leaders expressed their appreciation during their regular meeting at the Presidential Palace in Dili on Wednesday, where they discussed national security, social stability and the country’s upcoming diplomatic engagements.
In light of global unrest, Gusmão called on young Timorese to protect the stability the country has worked hard to achieve, cautioning them against blindly following foreign protest movements that could lead to violence and social disruption.
The Head of Government emphasized that the Government remains open to constructive dialogue to address domestic concerns without compromising public peace.
Addressing domestic security and governance, the Gusmão reiterated the State’s firm stance on strictly regulating martial arts groups to prevent violence, vandalism, and the infiltration of security forces, asserting that martial arts must remain a disciplined sport rather than a source of communal division.
During the meeting the both leaders also discussed Timor-Leste’s upcoming diplomatic calendar, confirming highly anticipated visits from the Prince of Monaco on November 24 and the Prime Ministers of Pacific Island on November 28.
