DILI, 01 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament has approved in generality and unanimously the safety, health, and hygiene at work law.
“The law would be handed over to Committee D, which deals with Economy and Development issues so that it can be discussed in the specialty,” said the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Guterres, at the House of Parliament.
The President of Committee D, Antonino Bianco, said that the law provides for securing the safety, health, and welfare of persons at work.
“The Labor Law already exists, but it is necessary to have a Law on Safety, Health, and Hygiene at Work to ensure the rights and duties of workers,” he said.
Also the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment (SEFOPE), Alarico do Rosário, stressed the importance of this law to ensure the rights of Timorese workers, for example, ensuring the rights to compensation for damages resulting from occupational risk.
Last month, the Council of Ministers approved the draft Law Proposal, presented by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral, and by the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment, Alarico do Rosário, regarding Safety, Health, and Hygiene at Work.
