DILI, 15 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers (CoM), today, approved a resolution to appoint Chief Superintendent Henrique da Costa as the next General Commander of the Timorese National Police (PNTL), for three years, to replace Faustino da Costa.
The Council of Ministers also approved the draft resolution to appoint Chief Superintendent Pedro Belo as the Second General Commander of the PNTL, for three years, replacing Mateus Fernandes.
Both draft resolutions were presented by the Minister of Interior, Taur Matan Ruak.
Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidélis Magalhães says that both nominees were eligible for the positions because they met the required criteria.
Chief Superintendent Henrique da Costa was appointed on july 2, 2020, as Dili Municipal Commander, and on december 1, 2022, he assumed the position of Chief of the Department of Personnel Training at the PNTL Headquarters.
It is recalled that Chief Superintendent, Pedro Belo, assumed, on april 4, 2019, his current position as PNTL Operations Commander.
The mandate of the current PNTL General Commander, Faustino da Costa, and the second commander, Mateus Fernandes end this month.
