DILI, 15 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers today approved the draft resolution on a donation of 60,000 dollars to be granted to the Embassy of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, in Dili.

The resolution was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno.

The financial support is intended to support the Embassy of the Saharawi Arab Republic in carrying out political activities in Timor-Leste and the region.

“This measure strengthens the historic ties that bind Timor-Leste and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, based on the common desire for self-determination, on the principle of solidarity with the struggle of peoples for national liberation and the right to self-determination and independence, present in the Constitution of the Republic, in the Resolution of the National Parliament of solidarity and support for the Saharawi people and in the fact that Timor-Leste contributes, since 2011, to the functioning of that Permanent Representation in Dili, through the granting of an annual subsidy for the exercise of its activities in Timor-Leste and the region,” said the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidélis Magalhães, at the Government Palace, in Dili.

He stressed that Timor-Leste has very good bilateral relations with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic: “This is the Government’s sympathy to the current situation of the Sahrawi Republic, struggling for self-determination and independence.”

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic also known as Western Sahara, is a partially recognized state, recognized by 45 UN member states, located in the Western Maghreb, which claims the non-self-governing territory of Western Sahara, but controls only the fifth territory further east.
