DILI, 22 march 2023 ( TATOLI)-Director of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation ( MoFAC), Milena Rangel, said that MoFAC will recruit more than 400 staff to integrate with ASEAN to carry out administrative work in various sector in ASEAN.

“The staff recruitment process for ASEAN is already underway,” Milana Rangel told TATOLI in Farold Dili.

Rangel said Timor-Leste has sufficient human resources in all aspects so that MoFAC is confident that the staff recruitment will be effective.

“Many human resources are set to be employed, but currently there are also many human resources who have not been integrated with the existing system, so this recruitment will give them access to the system to work effectively,” She said.

Rangel also explained that, after the recruitment, MoFAC will invite ASEAN experts from Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia to provide training before they are assigned to work.

According to Rangel, the accession of ASEAN is very important for Timor-Leste and has become a national interest, saying that Asean is a peaceful region, Asean is also known as ‘the Asean lead mechanism’, a mechanism that leads to the principles of ASEAN, which composes ASEAN Plus1, Plus 3, consisting of strong countries.

In addition, in ASEAN they have a ‘Defense Ministers Dialogue’, a dialogue that involves all military defense, where all principals will discuss the political situation and political security in the region and beyond also its impact on the global.

Another reason, said Range, is because Timor-Leste is part of the ASEAN region which has the share same culture: “Therefore in ASEAN there is one pillar that only focuses on socio-culture, to see how people relate to people, how people in this region are connected in various sectors. ASEAN offers various opportunities, both in the fields of economy, defense, and political security,” said Rangel.

It is known that Timor – Leste has submitted its documents for access by ASEAN members since March 2011 and until now Timor – Leste has been integrated into the road map consisting of the three pillars of ASEAN, such as the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), ASEAN ASEAN Economic Community (AEC ) and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) which have been evaluated by the Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) in 2022. Hopefully from the Indonesian Presidency Timor – Leste will soon become a full member of ASEAN in 2023 and beyond.
