DÍLI, 21 July 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic and the Patron of the National Scouts, José Ramos-Horta, met with UNE-TL President Mariano Assanami Sabino to outline the organization’s annual priorities.

The Head of State emphasized that youth character-building must be rooted in discipline, social justice, and a profound respect for the national peace that was hard-won by the sacrifices of past generations.

Guided by the President’s directives on combating climate change, the Scouts are actively prioritizing environmental conservation to mitigate the impacts of the impending El Niño.

“This green initiative will be the central theme at the upcoming National Jamboree in Bobonaro from July 27 to August 2, which will mobilize local youth and university students to protect vital forests, water sources, and rural agriculture,” said in a statement.

Beyond youth mobilization, President Ramos-Horta has initiated a robust State response, having already summoned relevant government ministries to coordinate national food and environmental security.

The Presidency urges all Timorese citizens to unite alongside the government and the Scouts, actively participating in community-wide efforts to safeguard the nation against these environmental challenges.
