COVALIMA, 22 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Petroleum and Minerals Authority (ANPM), organizes a three-day training for journalists to boost their reporting skills on the oil, gas, and mineral industry.

More than 20 journalists from various local media, including TATOLI, RTTL, RTM, TVE, STL, Independent, Timor Post, Hatutan, and Neon Metin participated in the training.

The training covers a range of topics: Exploration and Production, Bayu Undan Decommissioning, Offshore and Onshore Oil and Gas Safety and Security, Petroleum Fiscal Regime, etc.

The training included visits to the onshore drilling in Covalima municipality, namely the Feto-Kmaus Liurai and Lafaek well.

President of ANPM, Florentino Soares Ferreira said that the training aims to increase journalists’ knowledge in covering and reporting on the oil and gas and minerals industry.

“Journalists and editors need to have good knowledge to produce reliable, and factual stories in order to educate the public,” Ferreira said at the launch of the training program, in Covalima.

During the three-day training, the designed modules would help journalists and editors learn the glossary of oil, gas, and mineral terms.

Ferreira reiterated that having knowledge and skills in reporting on the industry, would prevent journalists from committing hoaxes, misinformation, and disinformation.

At the same place, Timor-Leste Press Council advisor, Amito Araujo said that due to the lack of knowledge in the industry, therefore it is necessary to organize such training to help journalists produce good and interesting stories.

Araújo appreciates ANPM’s initiatives in organizing the training, encouraging journalists to use the opportunity wisely to learn something valuable during the training: “I congratulate those journalists who make time for the training.”
