DILI, 13 april 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, will award the Order of Rio Branco to the Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Zacarias da Costa Albano, for his outstanding service.
In an interview, Zacarias Albano told TATOLI that the award ceremony will take place on april 18, at the CPLP headquarters, in Lisbon, Portugal.
“I am deeply honored to have been nominated. The awa rd ceremony will be presided over by Brazil’s permanent representative to the CPLP, Juliano Féres Nascimento, three days before the arrival of President Lula in Lisbon to directly observe the work of the secretariat and congratulate it on the success achieved over the past two years,” Albano said.
He stressed that the award represents the recognition of the work developed by the Executive Secretary of the CPLP in the last two years and that it encourages him to continue working in the next two years in order to “transform the community of states into a community of people.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Order of Rio Branco decoration was instituted in 1962 and is intended to reward those who, for any reason or merit, has become deserving of the Brazilian government’s recognition.
Last month, the Government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers approved the reapplication of Zacarias Albano to the post of Executive Secretary of CPLP.
Zacarias da Costa was elected Executive Secretary for the biennium of 2021-2023 by the XIII CPLP Conference of Heads of State and Government, held in Luanda, Angola, on july 17th, 2021.
