The Malaysia Embassy distributes porridge dishes to the communities in Dili to welcome Eid Al-Fitr

DILI, 15 april 2023 ( TATOLI) – The Malaysian Embassy in Timor – Leste today distributed gastric porridge dishes to some Timororese community in Dili as alms in welcoming Eid ul-Fitr which will take place on 21 April , 2023.

The Malaysian Ambassador to Timor – Leste, Amarjit Sarjit Singh, said that this porridge dish has become a tradition for Malaysians where before Ramadan all Muslims cook gastric porridge to share with others to welcome Eid ul-Fitr, therefore the Malaysian Embassy in Timor – Leste also wishes to cook gastric porridge to be distributed in Timor – Leste as a charity to welcome Eid ul-Fitr.

“We will distribute 300 packages of gastric porridge dishes to the Dili community and also Malaysian citizens in Timor – Leste, as alms to welcome Eid ul-Fitr in Timor – Leste,” said the Malaysian Ambassador when interviewed by TATOLI at the Malaysian Embassy, in Pantai ​​Kelapa Dili, on saturday.

Malaysian Ambassador Singh added that by distributing this porridge dish, the Malaysian Embassy would be more friendly with the Timorese people and establish strong relationships to build Timor – Leste’s economy in a more resilient way.

“Through distributing this porridge, the friendship between Timor-Leste and Malaysia through government-to-government relations as well as between people-to-people will continue to be developed in Timor-Leste in the future. Malaysia is ready to help Timor-Leste to develop human resource capacities in various areas to advance Timor – Leste in the future,” he concluded.

Religious events are widely celebrated and are joyous, this includes Islamic events and festivals, namely the holy month of Ramadan, Eid-ul Fitr, and Eid-ul Adha.

Eid-ul-Fitr is Eid which is celebrated at the end of the month of fasting – Ramadan. It also means the ‘festival when fast is broken’. Ramadan is the holy month wherein Muslims have to keep a fast from dawn to dusk. 

Like other countries, Malaysian tradition every Ramadan is the making and distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’, a creamy rice porridge made of meat pieces, coconut milk, spices, and other flavourful condiments.
