Malaysia and Indonesia accept TL’s temporary passport extension stamp

DILI, 15 may 2023 (TATOLI) – The Malaysian and Indonesian authorities have agreed with the Government of Timor-Leste to allow Timorese citizens with temporary passport extension stamps to enter, live and study in the territories of the two countries.

The decision on the agreement was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) of the Timor-Leste.

Director General for Protocol and Consular Affairs, Amorim Dias, together with the National Director for Legal and Legislation Advisory Services, Nelinho Vital, and National Director for Civil Registration and Notary, Nelson Manuel Moniz Belo held a meeting on May 2 with the foreign diplomats residing in the country to discuss the matter.

“Following the meeting, these diplomats contacted their Foreign Ministries to agree and support the decision proposed by the Timorese Government on the temporary passport extension stamp,” a statement said.

On may 3, MoFAC circulated a letter to all diplomats in Dili and outside the country about the decision, to ask their countries to accept Timor-Leste’s temporary passport extension stamp.

Following the circulation of the letter, on may 12, MoFAC received the good news of the decision by the governments of Indonesia and Malaysia to allow Timorese citizens to enter their territories with a temporary passport extension stamp.

The temporary passport extension stamp will be issued by the Office of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Timor-Leste.
