DILI, 24 may 2023 (TATOLI)- World Health Organization (WHO) and the Minister of Health (MoH) promoted hands hygiene on world hand hygiene day, to ensure regular hand washing and protect the human body from the transmission of antimicrobials and other viruses affected the human body.
WHO country representative in Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur said clean hands is a way to a barrier to the prevention of antimicrobial virus in the human body, as it can be easily caused people to get sick.
“We must have a habit of regular hand washing, to ensure our hands are clean everywhere we are,” WHO country representative in Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur said in his remarks, on the celebration of world washing hands day at NHGV, Bidau, this wednesday.
He added that hand hygiene prompted the implementation of health care protection in the health center. It is a priority and significant to reduce infection which caused people to get sick, Therefore, the action of washing a hand regularly can save people’s lives and ensure a healthy life.
“During covid19, most people saved a life by regularly washing hands with soap and clean water and using hand sanitizer to ensure people were not affected by covid19 virus and other viruses. It showed big significant result for Timor-Leste where most people were not affected by covid19,” he said
In the same place, Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo said everybody must have the habit of washing hands regularly, saying it is part of daily life.
“Washing hands is a simple way, otherwise people neglect the action of washing hands,” Minister said
However, it can be given big impact on human life. People who do not have a habit of washing their hands will contribute to transmitting viruses from one person to another.
She calls on all the people to wash their hands regularly adding that washing hands regularly is a preventive way to transmit many diseases to the human body.
“I call on all people and especially the health staff to maintain regular washing hands and ensure their hand is hygienic, as you always work closely with patients. You should not contribute to transmitting the viruses or any other diseases to other people,’’ she said
Hand hygiene day was celebrated on the 5th of may. However, WHO and MoH in Timor-Leste are celebrating on 24 of may 2023.
