DILI, 29 may 2023 (TATOLI)—The Interim Director of the Timor-Leste Association of Persons with Disabilities Foundation (AHDMTL), Gabriel Ponciano de Sousa, expect the new Government to form a State Secretariat for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities in Timor-Leste.
“We recommend to the Political Parties that win the majority election to form a State Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities in their government so that they can focus on the fate of Persons with Disabilities in this country,” said Executive Director, Gabriel Ponciano to TATO LI de Manleuana Díli, this Monday.
Gabriel Ponciano de Sousa added that the existence of the State Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities is very important so that it can focus on accommodating all the problems of persons with disabilities in Timor-Leste, by increasing the standard of living inclusively.
“Based on National Statistics, more than 70,000 persons with disabilities are registered in the 2022 population census. Persons with Disabilities must contribute to an inclusive national development process in Timor-Leste,” he said.
He hopes that the CNRT will Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities to focus on paying attention to the fate of persons with disabilities, accessing education and all other sectors inclusively in Timor-Leste.
“We believe the CNRT Party, led by cafetão Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão will take into account the wishes of persons with disabilities and form a State Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities in the new government to pay attention to the right of persons with disabilities in an inclusive manner in this country,”
