DILI, 13 june 2023 ( TATOLI)- Timor-Leste Athlete, Teofilo Freitas, Requested the New Government to dignify and pay full attention to the special outstanding athletes who have brought to their nation gold medals from the international arena.
“I asked the new government to revise the ministerial regulations regarding awarding prizes to outstanding athletes because the regulations regarding ministerial diplomas make it difficult for us with disabilities to achieve the requirements that apply to persons with disabilities in Timor-Leste,” Teofilo told TATOLI on Monday.
Teofilio Freitas who recently claimed his first gold medal in the men’s T38 1500m competition at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, is emotionally satisfied with the achievements he achieved during the event.
“I am very pleased to be able to bring home two gold medals from the ASEAN Pre-Olympic international competition in Cambodia, and I also ask the new government to continue to pay attention to Timor Leste’s outstanding athletes,” said Freitas.
The seven medals were claimed by Six Timorese Athletes from four different events: powerlifting, badminton, swimming, and Athletics. The seven medals consisted of two gold and five bronze.
The six outstanding Athletes will be awarded by the Timor-Leste Government Secretary for Youth and Sports (SSYS) shortly after the Gov’t received the official report from the Timor – Leste Pra Olympic Committee.
