Ten Timorese begin a one-month internship program in Indonesia

DILI, 20 june 2023 (TATOLI) – The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (KEMENKOPMK-RI) welcomed 10 Timorese civil servants to undertake a one-month internship program in Indonesia in preparation for Timor-Leste’s full membership of ASEAN.

The training will take place between June 16 and June 18 to strengthen the human resources of Timor-Leste in preparation for organizing and hosting the ASEAN Summit in the future.

The training began on June 16 with a special reception organized by KEMENKOPMK-RI.

The internship program was organized due to the bilateral coordination between Timor-Leste and KEMENKOPMK-RI. 

Director of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Cooperation of the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Yuliani Bahar said that the training will help the trainees to boost their capacity in the area of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) in order to be well prepared for Timor-Leste’s full members of ASEAN in the future.

“This training will help the civil servants to be familiar with the best practices of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), which is part of Timor-Leste’s preparation for full membership,” he said.

The ten civil servants will receive training in a number of Indonesian government agencies during the one-month training program.

Expert Staff for Strengthening Political Stability and Governance of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Sorni Paskah Daeli said that the internship program aimed to increase the understanding of Timor-Leste civil servants on the mechanism and work procedures of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Pillar.

He said that an internship program is a form of Indonesia’s support to Timor-Leste: “We hoped that Timor-Leste civil servants can expand their professional network and improve substantive skills related to the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Pillar as well as soft skills such as managerial skills, organizing meetings, and other ASEAN activities.”

“We hope that this program can increase the capacity of our Timor-Leste colleagues, both in terms of institutions and human resources. We are delighted to share our experiences and knowledge with you, so please do not hesitate to discuss with us,” he said.

Another 30 civil servants will depart for Indonesia next month. They will learn about the bureaucratic management in Indonesia which is divided into two batches, starting from 16 to 18 June and 30 June to 12 July in 2023.
