DILI, 24 june 2023 (TATOLI) – After receiving a scholarship at the Maritime Academy in Malaysia, the graduates founded the Association Maritime of Timor – Leste (AMTL).
The Chairman, of AMTL, Simplicio Ximenes revealed the scholarships is offered for the five people who received support from the German International Organization (GIZ) in collaboration with the Government of Timor Leste in the Maritime sector, to develop the potential of human resources in the area of maritime in Timor – Leste.
” We were awarded a scholarship from GIZ through the Timor – Leste’s Government to continue our study at the Academic of Maritime in Malaysia. In Malaysia we study the specific theory of Maritime science for three years and continue with the ship training for more than one year at the sea, “Simplicio Ximenes told reporters in an exclusive interview at the Tatoli ‘s office, Farol Dili.
According to Simplicio Ximenes, AMTL was founded in 2019, and currently has 203 members, while the purpose of creating the AMTL was to lead the maritime sector in Timor Leste and facilitate maritime needs.
In addition to accommodate the human resources in the marine and fisheries sector in order to support the demanding of the company and the Government’s operational shipping in Timor – Leste and overseas.
“AMTL’s mission is to promote our generation, to get the marine knowledge overseas, and provide opportunities for those who study in the marine science to prepare the human resources, particularly for the future mariners,” he said.
Ximenes also says that despite facing many challenges but AMTL was able to pass all the difficulties and seek support from the Government and Partners to develop the marine sector in Timor Leste.
“Currently receive the supports of equipment such as computer and others from the government and partner,”
At the same time, Ximenes also urges the government to prioritize this area, in the future.
