LAUTEM,27 june 2023 (TATOLI)– The Embassy of Japan celebrated the inauguration of Escola Basica Central (EBC) of Leusari school building in Serelau Village, Sub Administrative Lautem of Lautem Municipality.
This inauguration ceremony for the new school building was hosted by the Foundation of Love and Friendship (FUNDAMOR), and launched by Kazumi YAMADA, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Armindo Maia and participated by local government officials of relevant authorities, stakeholders, teachers, school staffs, and students joined Deputy Head of Mission YAMADA in the ceremony.
Deputy Head of Mission YAMADA extended his sincere gratitude to the people of Serelau village and FUNDAMOR for their excellent work on the construction of the school building.
YAMADA requested the students to keep this school building clean and intact: “Learning will enrich your life and expand your future opportunities. Keeping this school building clean and intact will also help your younger brothers and sisters learn in the future not to forget to wash their hands after they use the toilet or before eating lunch and snacks, as it will keep them healthy and prevent them from illness.” she said.
The school was constructed by the Government of Japan with a total budget of USD$90,967 through its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots and Human Security Projects(GGP) scheme. A new school building with three classrooms and restrooms was constructed, benefitting 250 students and 24 teachers and school staff in EBC Leusari school.
Since the first project was launched in 2000, 136 projects have been implemented under the GGP scheme in all 14 Municipalities of Timor-Leste.
The projects mainly assist with community infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of school facilities, public clinics, and water supply systems, addressing various basic human needs at the grassroots level.
