DILI, 05 july 2023 (TATOLI)—The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) is committed to establishing a special team to revise poor-quality projects that have been implemented previously.
The Minister of Public Works, Samuel Marçal said, currently the Ministry of Public Works expects the instructions from the Prime Minister to revise the projects.
“Currently, no instructions have been received from PM, but we will control and review the project compliance. This means that projects must comply with requirements, standards, and regulations,” said Samuel Marçal after attending a meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Government Office, this Wednesday.
He added that the project overview will be conducted by MoPW and supported by techniques from MoPW together with ADN (National Development Agency).
“We will set up a team consisting of specialized technicians from MoPW and AND staff to verify the project. If the project fails to follow any operational procedures, we will take serious steps to resolve the issue,” he said.
So far, in 2023, the Government has started 13 new projects, while a total of 683 projects have been started, composed of 339 projects have been completed, and 580 projects are ongoing.
Previous reports from the government also stated that MoPW itself handled 16 projects, where 9 of them had been 100% completed, 4 projects are still in the process of the defect liability period and 3 projects achieved more than 50%.
So far, 7 projects have been funded by ADB (Asian Development Bank), 4 projects have been funded by the World Bank and 1 project has been funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), 1 project has been funded by ADB and JICA, and 3 projects have been funded by European Union and ADB.
