DÍLI, 04 August 2026 (TATOLI) — The National Commercial Bank of Timor-Leste (BNCTL) will launch its Mastercard on August 14, marking a major step in the bank’s efforts to modernize its services and expand access to digital banking across the country.

The introduction of the Mastercard represents an important milestone in its digital transformation strategy, allowing customers to conduct transactions more conveniently and securely while accessing the global Mastercard payment network.

“The Mastercard is part of the bank’s strategy to modernize its services, drive digital innovation and expand access to banking services for the people of Timor-Leste,” BNCTL said in a statement.

BNCTL said the initiatives demonstrate its commitment to providing more modern, efficient and secure banking services while accelerating the development of digital financial services in Timor-Leste.

The launch will coincide with the official opening of BNCTL’s new branch building in Liquiçá, which the bank said is expected to enhance customer service and strengthen its presence in the municipality.

According to the bank, the Liquiçá branch has experienced steady growth since it began operations in 2011, recording increases in its customer base, deposits and asset portfolio.

The event is expected to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment Francisco Kokubun Lay, government officials, members of the National Parliament, municipal authorities, BNCTL’s Board of Directors and Executive Commission, Mastercard representatives, strategic partners and other invited guests.
