TATOLI and Guangxi Daily sign cooperation agreement
DÍLI, 21 September 2026 (TATOLI) – On the morning of September 21, Guangxi Daily (Guangxi International Communication Center) and Timor-Leste News Agency (TATOLI), signed a cooperation agreement in Nanning. This signing marks that bilateral media cooperation has moved from a framework consensus to tangible implementation, and Guangxi’s international communication cooperation network facing ASEAN and Portuguese-speaking countries continues to expand.
At the signing ceremony, Noémio Mateus Soares Falcão, President of the Board and Editor-in-Chief of TATOLI, affirmed the cooperation between the two sides.
He said that Guangxi Daily (Guangxi International Communication Center) has built a window for the people of Timor-Leste to understand China, and TATOLI has also become a window for the Chinese people to understand Timor-Leste. The official website of TATOLI currently has 4 languages, and he hopes that a Chinese version can be added soon.
TATOLI is the country’s only official news agency, with multilingual editing and reporting capabilities in Tetum, Portuguese, English, and Indonesian. It is Timor-Leste’s core window for external communication and authoritative information release platform. Guangxi Daily and Guangxi International Communication Center are Guangxi’s mainstream authoritative media and an autonomous region-level professional international communication institution. Relying on the unique geographical advantage of being adjacent to ASEAN, they have long cultivated the field of international communication in ASEAN and continuously built bridges for media exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries.
In 2025, Timor-Leste officially joined ASEAN, and China and Timor-Leste continued to deepen cooperation in multiple fields such as economic and trade connectivity, cultural integration, and people-to-people exchanges. In December of the same year, the Guangxi Daily “Her Quest World” reporting team went to Timor-Leste to carry out special interviews and cross-border media exchanges, and successfully signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with TATOLI, initially establishing a normalized media cooperation framework between the two sides.
This year, Timor-Leste attended the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) for the first time as an ASEAN member state. TATOLI was invited to report on the events and published multiple key reports on CAEXPO, CABIS, and the navigation of the Pinglu Canal on its official platform, introducing China-ASEAN cooperation opportunities and Timor-Leste’s exhibition results to local audiences in Timor-Leste.
The signing of this formal cooperation agreement is a key measure for both sides to implement the consensus of the earlier Memorandum of Understanding and to promote media cooperation from framework alignment to tangible implementation and from initial exchanges to deep cultivation.
According to the agreement, both sides will establish a long-term and regular cooperation mechanism, focus on core areas such as the construction of international liaison stations, sharing of news materials, joint interviews and reporting, mutual translation and broadcasting of content, talent exchange and training, and co-creation of cross-border activities, and carry out all-round, multi-level, and tangible in-depth collaboration, continuously building an important bridge for people-to-people exchanges, public opinion connectivity, and mutual learning of cultures between the two countries.
