DILI, 20 july 2023 (TATOLI)— The National Center of Chega (CNC) has collected revenues of $6,973 to state treasury in 2022 through various activities.
“By 2022, CNC is depositing revenues of $6,973 in national funds with the Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL ), all of these funds generated from book sales revenue, tourist sites history, and hall rental in 2022,” the statement says.
CNC already has the terms of reference for the revenue management activities that have been approved by the Executive Director of CNC and revenue rules, bank accounts, and serial number sequences in the Government Resource Planning (GRP) system.
Chega has its history houses, including Balide Prison, a Portuguese-era prison Timorese resistance figures were exiled by the Indonesian military during the 24 years of Timorese occupation, Centro Chega! reminiscent of the torment of those detained there, who died and/or disappeared, which still exist today.
Since its establishment in December 2016, Centro Nacional Chega! has focused its mission on promoting the recommendations of the Commission for Reception, Truth, and Reconciliation to institutionalize memory and promote human rights through education, training, and solidarity with the most vulnerable survivors of human rights violations.
Centro Nacional Chega!, is described as a “living monument” that serves to always present “ideals that motivate people to fight for their freedom” and to “orient Timor-Leste not to contribute to decisions that deprive people of their rights, in the region and world.”
Chega engages with the community, both the public and survivors, through commemorating historical events, mapping historical sites, organizing educational tours that allow students to visit historical sites and listen to survivors’ testimonies, and creating spaces for intergenerational transmission of memories.
