DILI, August 01, 2023 (TATOLI)—DONKAME’s non-governmental organization (NGO) plans to bring nine Timorese young people from Viqueque Municipality to conduct a comparative study in the sector of Agriculture in Japan this year.

According to the official website accessed by Tatoli, stated that on 27 July 2023, the Ambassador of Timor Leste for Japan in Tokyo, Ilídio Ximenes da Costa received a report from the President of Donkame Co. Ltd, and Program Coordinator Hisashi Miyata, in Timor-Leste.

The reports stated that the nine Timorese are sent by DONKAME NGO, the NGO that works close with the Community in Viqueque including Students and residents in the environmental systems, and focused on cultivating local crops and also livestock such as poultry or chicken farms, and agriculture (growing vegetables) using a greenhouse system.

“They are planning to send 9 Timorese people to do a comparative study to Japan this year. They also are currently cooperating with Caltech Company to collect water plastic bottles. The DONKAME also will provide some equipment such as tractors to support more developing farmers in agriculture sectors,’’ said Ambassador Ilídio.

Previously on November 8, 2022, the Municipal Authority of Viqueuqe, Januario Soares, made a study visit to Japan to participate in training in agriculture, especially irrigation of rice fields for a week in Tsukuba Japan to improve the agricultural sector.

The visit was aimed to share experiences and making some observations during a week in Japan’s Tsukuba Prefecture: “During the visit, they also participate in some training and acquired more knowledge,”

It was explained that DONKAME had previously assisted PAM Viqueque since 2016. They started a waste management program, the right way to raise chickens, and an agricultural irrigation program for the people of Viqueque and they appreciated it.

DONKAME will complete its project in Viqueque in 2025. Therefore, they request the Embassy and JICA to continue to support the DONKAME project in Viqueque in the future.
