ILI, 01 august 2023 (TATOLI) – A delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in partnership with the Indonesian Food and Drug Control Agency(IFDCA), met with the Inspection and Supervision of Economic, Sanitary and Food Activity (AIFAESA) in order to identify the necessary equipment to support Timor-Leste in the food safety and quality testing laboratory.
Noviyanti Nurmala, an Indonesian MFA representative for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Affairs, referred that this visit follows the request for support presented by AIFAESA to the Government of Indonesia.
The Inspector General of AIFAESA, Ernesto Monteiro, recalled that in June an agreement had been signed between the authority and IFDCA, in which the latter had undertaken to acquire the necessary equipment for the establishment food testing laboratory.
“IFDCA Indonesia is strongly committed to providing laboratory equipment to Timor-Leste, however, before doing so, and according to the agreement, it would have to inspect the buildings, as well as the existing equipment”, he stressed.
It should be recalled that IFDCA has been cooperating with AIFAESA since 2018, through the South-South Cooperation framework, as a form of joint commitment to improving food control. As part of this collaboration, IFDCA has, among other things, provided training and assistance to Timorese food inspectors.
