DILI, 07 august 2023 ( TATOLI) – The Executive President of Combating and Prevention of HIV/SIDA (INCSIDA- IP), Atanazio de Jesus, informed that more than 300 people with HIV/AIDS positive have dropped out of treatment so far.
“Based on the INCSIDA database, over 700 HIV/AIDS positive people have received routine treatment at the INCSIDA Clinical Center in Tibar, and out of these 700 people, more than 300 people have dropped out of treatment,” said INCSIDA President, IP Atanazio de Jesus, to TATOLI in his office Luro – Mata, Dili.
The INCSIDA President explained that even though 300 HIV/AIDS- people had left treatment, INCSIDA would approach them to seek information about their condition to continue treatment to extend their immunity.
“Even though they have dropped out of treatment, INCSIDA continues to keep their identity secret and continues to seek information on rapprochement to invite them to undergo treatment to strengthen their immunity,” he said.
Therefore, people who are positive for HIV/AIDS in Timor-Leste are encouraged to continue treatment to prolong their lives.
“INCSIDA will guarantee the confidentiality of your identity and will not discriminate against anyone who is infected with HIV/AIDS positive in Timor-Leste,”
Considering that from 2003 to 2023 more than 1,800 people have been infected with HIV/AIDS and more than 500 people have died so far, therefore, everyone is advised not to practice free sex in preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS in Timor-Leste.
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).
There are currently no effective drugs. Once people contract HIV, they have it for life.
But with the right medical treatment, HIV can be controlled. People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.
