DILI, 15 september 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta has on Friday officiated the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Finance, Felícia Claudinanda Cruz Carvalho, and the newly appointed Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to ASEAN, Natércia Cipriana Coelho da Silva.

The newly appointed deputy finance minister replaced her predecessor Helder Lopes, who is currently the governor of the Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL).

After the swearing-in ceremony, Minister Carvalho thanked Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and President Horta for the trust placed in her to take on such a great responsibility.

“Taking on this new role as deputy minister is a great privilege for me. I promise to fulfill my duty to properly serve the people and the nation,” said Minister Carvalho at the Presidential Palace, in Dili, today.

At the same place, Natércia Cipriana Coelho da Silva was also sworn in as Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to ASEAN.

Ambassador Silva will assume her duties as soon as she presents her credentials to the ASEAN Secretary General.

The appointment of the ambassador to ASEAN is part of the roadmap for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the IX Government, Horta recommended that the members of the government should serve the people and the nation with honesty, humility, and professionalism, in order to contribute to the integrated and sustainable development of the country.

After his swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister, Gusmão also urged the members of his cabinet to serve the people with responsibility, dedication, honesty, persistence, and courage.

Gusmão highlighted that all serving leaders must keep in mind that their work is to serve the citizens and the country, which means that members of the government are working to transform the lives of citizens for the better, and not for their own gain.
