DILI, 20 September 2023 (TATOLI) – Thirteen Timorese young groups will participate in the Asia Youth Folklore Festival in Malaysia for one week from 21 to 26 September 2023.
The coordinator of the Timor Furak Group, Olívio Dos Santos, said the objective of the Timorese young group’s participation in the folklore festival in Malaysia is to promote Timorese culture to the world through the performance of dance, singing, and painting.
“We want to take part in events in other countries and we have to collaborate with other groups to give our friends the same opportunity to express their talents. We have been preparing for a whole month to take part in this event,” Olívio Dos Santos said at Timor Plaza.
Singer Maria Vitória said that this event was a good opportunity for Timor’s young generation to participate.
“I feel very proud to be able to represent my country by taking part in international events. This event is held every year, so I think this is a good way for the younger generation of Timorese who want to participate in this event in the future.” He added
There are various types and future events, including festivals, international events, art exhibitions, and conferences.
Event visitors also have the opportunity to participate in career seminars, round tables, dance competitions, and other important events.
Timor-Leste’s representatives hope to encourage other young people in the country to express their talents in films to promote Timor-Leste’s identity and culture.
Asked about the amount of budget support provided by the Timorese Government for the trip of Timorese citizens, the representative did not refuse to provide the amount of support.
It is known that the countries that will participate in the festival are China, India, India, Japan, Thailand, Iran, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Timor-Leste.
To cover travel, accommodation, and food costs, the Timor-Leste delegation was funded by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MJDAC), Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry (MTCI), State Secretariat for Arts and Culture, Banco Nacional de Comércio de Timor -Leste (BNCTL), also received sponsorship from the East Timor Trading Company.
So far, the Timorese groups are composed of eleven types of dancers from Timor Furak and Le-Ziaval Groups, and painters from Arte Moris and Maria Vitória perform singing.
The Asian Pacific Youth Festival of Folklore event will take place from September 21 to 26, in Petaling Jaya in Malaysia.
