DILI, 25 september 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Health (MoH) has today launched the construction of the new building of the Pediatric and Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) of the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV).
It was jointly launched by the two deputy ministers of Health, Flávio Brandão, deputy minister for Hospital Operations, and José dos Reis Magno, deputy minister for Strengthening Health Institutions.
“It’s a moment of great pride for us to launch the physical construction of this building. It demonstrates our commitment to improving our health services in the country,” Minister Brandão told reporters at the ground-breaking ceremony, at the HNGV, in Dili, today.
The foundation stone of the building was laid by the former Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, earlier this year.
The 5-storey building will be constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and supervised by the Indonesian company, PT Bennatin Surya Cipta.
Gao Yuan Cheng Liang, an engineer of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), said that almost all the construction materials come from China and some from Indonesia: “We will complete the construction of the building according to the established completion date of the project.”
The construction of the building costs around US$9.3 million which is expected to be completed by 2025.
The new building will improve specialized quality care provided at the HNGV for hospitalization of emergency cases and pediatric urgency.
It will also improve the national response to sporadic and emerging outbreaks of dengue, cholera, and other outbreaks with major public health impacts, particularly among newborns, children, and adolescents.
