DILI, 03 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem AlDhaheri, met with Timor-Leste’s Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, to discuss future cooperation of the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides were keen to discuss the prospects for future UAE-Timor-Leste cooperation in many areas.
“We have actually discussed areas of priorities for the bilateral relations of the two nations to see how we can really move faster,” Ambassador Salem told reporters after meeting the Prime Minister, at the Government Palace, in Dili, today.
Salem said they also discussed the two treaties that will be signed during the official visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to the United Arab Emirates on october 13.
He said the Head of State’s visit to the United Arab Emirates will open up new bilateral cooperation and allow both countries to find areas of common interest: “We discussed food security, agriculture, education, oil and gas, infrastructure, etc.”
“I believe that President Horta’s visit to the UAE will take bilateral relations between the two countries to the highest level,” he added.
Ambassador Salem handed over to the Prime Minister, the invitation letter from the United Arab Emirates inviting Timor-Leste to participate in COP28, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates between 30 November and 4 december, 2023.
Gusmão thanked Ambassador Salem for his visit to Timor-Leste and extended his greetings to President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice-President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Abdullah Salem Obaid Salem AlDhaherri, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic, last month.
In 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Timor-Leste (TL-MTC) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), through the General Authority for Civil Aviation (DCAA), signed an aviation agreement in Dubai.
