DILI, 05 october 2023 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s government and the family members of Francisco Gonçalves, a Timorese worker, who died in South Korea, still don’t know the cause of his death. Meanwhile, the body of the late Francisco will arrive on sunday (05/10).
The head of SEFOPE’s Office, Jacinto Ribeiro Dias, said that Francisco was found dead on 17 september 2023, Gochang city, South Korea.
“The deceased is on the way and will arrive in Dili on sunday. We are still waiting for the result of the investigation that has been carried out by the South Korean Police,” said Dias at SEFOPE’s office, in Dili, today
Dias said that as soon as the investigation into Francisco’s death is finalized, the results will be given to Francisco’s family.
In addition, on wednesday (04/10), Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to South Korea, Gregório de Sousa, accompanied by one of his secretaries, Almério Vieira, and the Labour Attaché, Calisto Pacheco, visited Soon Ching Hyang University Hospital in Itaewon, Seoul, to observe the body of the late Francisco da Costa Gonçalves.
Timor-Leste’s embassy in Korea has coordinated with SEFOPE to bring the body of the deceased to Timor-Leste via Singapore.

Francisco, 34, a Timorese worker who worked hard to realize his dream of supporting his family back home by working abroad, died unexpectedly in Gochang City, South Korea.
