DUBAI, 16 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta has announced the opening of Timor-Leste’s Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
President Horta made the announcement during his state visit to the UAE last week. This move demonstrates Timor-Leste’s commitment to building bilateral relations with all countries, including those in the Middle East.
Horta said Timor-Leste and UAE have discussed requirements and procedures for the opening of the embassy.
“Timor-Leste will establish its embassy in the United Arab Emirates next year. The budget for the opening of the embassy has been prepared by the office of Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation (MoFAC),” said Horta after meeting with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan last week.
The Head of State said that having a good ambassador to represent the Government of Timor-Leste in the United Arab Emirates is crucial to boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.
Horta emphasized that Timor-Leste’s future ambassador to the United Arab Emirates must have good experience and be committed to fulfilling his diplomatic missions abroad.
Horta said that he would discuss with the Timorese Foreign Minister, Bendito Freitas, and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão about the opening of Timor-Leste’s embassy in the United Arab Emirates.
