DILI, 17 october 2023 (TATOLI) – Ten Timorese students have passed the Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH) 2023 Scholarship of the Government of Timor-Leste to study Aviation-Related Disciplines at Indonesian aviation universities.
The 10 selected young Timorese will undertake studies in the fields of Airport Electrical Engineering, Airport Civil Engineering, Air Navigation Engineering, and Air Firefighting Engineering at two of Indonesia’s top aviation universities – Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute (ICAI) and Aviation Polytechnic of Surabaya (Poltekbang). These scholarship recipients are due to leave for Indonesia next week, according to the President of the Air Navigation Administration Timor-Leste (ANA-TL), José Trindade da Cruz Pinto.
The award of this scholarship demonstrated Timor-Leste’s commitment to investing seriously in the development of human resources in different aviation-related fields.
This type of scholarship is necessary to increase human resources in areas related to aviation, which will respond to the demand for human resources in the operation of airports in Timor-Leste, including Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão International Airport in Covalima, the Oecusse Route of Sandalwood International Airport and Baucau Airport.
Increasing qualified human resources in aviation-related fields will certainly help to improve the safe operation of these airports in the future.
Pinto said that studying Airport Electricity Engineering, Airport Civil Engineering, Air Navigation Engineering, and Air Firefighting Engineering is crucial to improving Airport Services, and Security: “I think sending our young Timorese to study these specific areas will help us to effectively manage our airport in the future.”
He said that as soon as the government received passport books, ANATL submitted the request to the Ministry of Justice to issue the passports to these scholarship recipients to be traveling to Indonesia next week.
Apart from the FDCH’s 10 scholarship holders, there are also two Timorese students who will be studying aviation-related fields with their own money.
Pinto said around US$81,000 has been allocated to the FDCD budget for this scholarship program.
In addition to the 10 FDCH scholarship holders, there are also two self-funded Timorese students who will be studying aviation-related disciplines.
