DILI, 20 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The two candidates in the second round of the 2022 presidential elections, José Ramos Horta and Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’, received state subsidies for their election campaigns.
Each candidate has the right to receive a state subsidy for electoral campaigns assigned after the elections and in accordance with the number of votes obtained by each candidate.
The vice-president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Domingos Barreto, said that the State had allocated around US$2.5 million for the 2022 Presidential Election Campaign.
José Ramos Horta received more than US$1.5 million for the 398,028 valid votes he obtained in the elections, while Lú Olo received more than US$900,000 for 242,939 valid votes.
According to article 2 of Decree-Law No.6/2018 of March 14 on subsidy amount: “Each presidential candidate is entitled to receive a State subsidy for their respective electoral campaign, in the amount of US$4.00 for each vote obtained.”
The result of the 2022 Presidential Election was officially announced april 29, 2022. The official announcement of the Result of the Second Round of the 2022 Presidential Election showed that with 640.967 (99.19%) valid votes counted, Horta won the election in a landslide victory with 398.028 votes (62.1%). Meanwhile, his rival incumbent Francisco Guterres Lú Olo has 242.939 votes (37.9%).
