Border Tourism Festival strengthens ties between Timorese and Indonesian people

DILI, 11 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste and Indonesian will hold a four-day Border Tourism Festival, from 15 to 18 november, in Maliana, a town of Bobonaro municipality to strengthen the cultural ties between the Timorese and Indonesian people.

The Cross Border Festival will enable everyone from both sides to freely come and enjoy the Festival.

The theme of the 2023 Cross-Border Festival is “Cultural Exchange to Strengthen Reconciliation.”

The Festival will feature activities such as conferences, seminars, visits to historical sites, reconciliation sports, and art performances.

The festival will strengthen ties between the two countries, especially those living in border areas to ensure peace and stability and avoid conflict.

Several national leaders are confirmed to attend the festival, including the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, the President of the National Parliament, Fernanda Lay, the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and members of the Government, as well as artists from both countries, academics, representatives of civil society organizations and communities from the border areas.

Border Tourism contributes significantly to the tourism of the country.

President of Authority of Bobonaro Municipality, Ernesto Barreto, the preparation for the event has been going well.

He said that he had met with a number of Indonesian authorities from West Timor to discuss the preparations needed to host the event. Hundreds of guests from West Timor will also attend the event.
