ASEAN countries promote their cultures through ASEAN Film Week in Timor-Leste

DILI, 21 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The embassies of the ASEAN countries in Timor-Leste are promoting their culture through their films during the ASEAN Film Week, from november 20 to 24, at the Indonesian Cultural Center, in Dili.

Films from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brunei Darussalam will be screened during the five days of ASEAN Film Week.

The Indonesian ambassador to Timor-Leste, Okto Dorinus Manik, said that the films that will be screened during the five days include Sokola Rimba (Indonesia), Yasmine (Brunei Darussalam), Love Destiny (Thailand), Kongsi Raya (Malaysia) and Perfumed Nightmare (Philippines): “The aim of the Film Week is to introduce the culture of the ASEAN countries to the Timorese.”

Manik said that understanding different cultures is crucial to strengthening the bond between the peoples of ASEAN, especially for the Timorese, as the country is expected to join ASEAN in 2025.

At the same place, the Deputy Minister of ASEAN Affairs, Milena Rangel, appreciated ASEAN countries for promoting their cultures in Timor-Leste.

“On behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste, we appreciate the initiative of the ASEAN countries to showcase their cultures through their films,” he said.
