DILI, 𝟐𝟑 n𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 – Under the invitation of the Minister of Mines and Energy of Cambodia, Keo Rottanak of Cambodia, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, as observer, representing Timor-Leste, participated in the 9th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Minerals (AMMin) in Phnom Penh.
In his speech, Minister Monteiro highlighted Timor-Leste’s entry into mineral exploration, announcing the country’s first Mineral Public Tender for metallic minerals.
Focusing on sustainable development, Minister Monteiro called for collaboration with ASEAN member states in this new venture.
He emphasized the alignment of Timor-Leste’s mining initiatives with ASEAN’s economic and environmental objectives, advocating for responsible mining practices.
This participation, marks a significant move for Timor-Leste in the ASEAN mining sector, paving the way for regional collaboration and mutual growth in minerals.
Secretary-General of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn underscored ASEAN’s commitment in enhancing the region’s attractiveness as a sustainable investment destination.
Kao said that sustainable resource development and environmental initiatives remains a cornerstone of ASEAN’s strategy for minerals to respond to the rising minerals demand driven by the global transition towards low-carbon technologies, twin energy, and digital revolutions.
