DILI, 24 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Chief of Mission of IOM Timor-Leste, Ihma Shareef met with the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta to discuss IOM’s protection services in protecting Timorese laborers abroad.
“We updated President Horta about IOM’s Protection Services, especially on the protection of Timorese citizens who are currently working abroad,” said Shareef after meeting the Head of State at the President’s Palace.
She said that IOM continues to work with the government to support Timorese citizens who are preparing to work abroad.
“We provide support to these workers, asking them to read all the necessary information before going abroad, in order to protect them from human trafficking,” said Shareef.
He added that the IOM would work closely with the government to control and prevent human trafficking in the country.
During the meeting, Horta asked IOM to continue protecting Timorese citizens who are currently working in the UK, South Korea, Australia, etc.
