DILI, 27 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Eighty-six teachers have been awarded, on Tuesday, with the Order of Timor-Leste by the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, for all their hard work and dedication throughout their teaching career, since Portuguese Timor and East Timor under Indonesian rule.
Ramos Horta recalled that this was not the first time this tribute had taken place: “I have done many times to recognize the dedication of teachers in the field of education.”
“According to the list presented by the Minister of Education, most of these teachers have dedicated their lives to teaching for more than five or six decades,” said the Head of State, in Dili.
The President of the Republic highlighted the need for the government to have a good policy to recognize and value the sacrifice of teachers: “The State is making an effort to value their contribution because they have dedicated half of their lives to this sector. I would like to congratulate these teachers for their dedication to the Timorese education sector.”
The Minister of Education, Dulce de Jesus, said that some of these 86 teachers, who dedicated themselves to teaching from Portuguese Timor to East Timor under Indonesian rule, have already retired from the profession.
“These teachers are extremely proud of the state’s recognition through this award,” said Minister Dulce.
