DILI, 11 december 2023 (TATOLI) – More than 10,000 Timorese students have benefitted from the Human Capital Development Fund (FDCH) since 2011.
These scholarships were awarded to support Timorese students in acquiring a higher education degree abroad.
“FDCH scholarships are designed to foster the development of human resources in order to contribute to national development of the country,” FDCH Executive Director Julio Aparicio told Tatoli.
Aparicio said that of the 10,000 scholarship holders, more than 5,000 have completed their studies and are currently working in various institutions, local and international NGOs, and in the private sector, contributing to the country’s sustainable development.
“They have completed their studies in various fields, including agriculture, law, computer science, civil engineering, medicine, economics, linguistics, political science, international relations, etc,” he explained.
He said that more than 4,000 Timorese students are currently studying overseas: “We hope they finish their studies as soon as possible so that they can contribute to the country’s development.”
“Investing in the development of human resources is crucial to accelerating national development. That’s why the FDCH will continue to give scholarships to Timorese to continue their studies abroad.”
The FDCH has requested US16 million in the 2024 State Budget to support young people to continue their studies abroad.
